Shelley Beattie is one of the most popular and richest Bodybuilder who was born on August 24, 1967 in Santa Ana, California, United States. As an athlete she was able to compete with a height of 5 seven inches (1.70 m) and a weight of 140 pounds (65 kg). Her fame soon grew due to her remarkable genetics and elegant and beautiful performance. Beattie acknowledged the genetics from her sporting family to her athletic capabilities as her mother is a 6’1″ (1.8 meters) athlete, and her sister is 5-foot-10-inches (1.78 m) and weighs 180 pounds (82 kilograms) athlete at Portland State University. In 1990, after winning the NPC USA and turning pro she was faced with some issues with the political system of the bodybuilding bodybuilding federation referred to as the IFBB and was not able to compete in Ms. Olympia in 1990. Ms. Olympia after her USA win. Beattie was also unhappy that some of her contest promises were not kept. Beattie stated, “Certain benefits and reimbursements from the USA that I was supposed to receive have never happened. I have made the proper people aware of this situation, so I’m hoping that one day they will fulfill their obligations.” Following her absence from an event in 1990, Ms. Olympia, she took part as the very first time in professional competition at her first Ms. International and finished third. In the same year, she placed 7th place in Ms. Olympia. The year 1992 saw her add grace and elegance to her physique and style and came in third place in Ms. Olympia, her best bodybuilding performance to date.

Beattie, who had long battled manic depression, attempted suicide by hanging herself in Portland, Oregon on February 13, 2008 and died three days later without regaining consciousness.

Beattie went to Western Oregon State College in Monmouth from 1984 until 1988. She specialized in weight training and power lifting to help face her emotional struggles and heal her body. In 1988, she graduated with the degree of special education and child psychology. When she was at Western, Beattie also studied choreography and jazz dance, and joined the dance group. It was her experience that choreography and dancing helped her manage her emotions and control them. In this period, Beattie also began to participate as an amateur competitor in bodybuilding competitions. She competed in her first event in her first competition, the Portland Rose Cup Novice, at 124 pounds. She placed 4th overall in her heavyweight category.

She retired from bodybuilding competition after placing 7th in the 1993 Ms. Olympia contest. Retirement from bodybuilding didn’t bring an end to her athletic endeavors, though. Beattie competed as a grinder on the America³ sailing team (the first all-women’s America’s Cup team). Grinders alternate between periods of inactivity and grueling physical work during each sail hoist, tack, and gybe. They require tremendous strength as they operate the winches that reel in the sheets and halyards.
