Sable Starr is one of the most popular and richest Groupie who was born on August 15, 1957 in Los Angeles, California, United States. After meeting Johnny Thunders (guitarist in the glam rock band The New York Dolls), she ran away from her home at 16 years old. She moved to New York City with him. Due to his drug addiction and violent jealousy, their relationship did not last. After she gave birth to his child, he wanted to marry her. But she declined and had an abortion instead. Starr returned to Los Angeles after she became tired of the physical abuse Thunders inflicted on her. Starr claimed that Thunders tried to destroy her personality. I wasn’t Sable starr anymore after I was with him. He destroyed the Sable starr thing.” She visited New York frequently, where she had an affair and befriended Nancy Spungen. She was out of the groupie scene by the 1980s.
Starr admitted to having gotten into fights with rival groupies and she allegedly had a confrontation with Bianca Jagger, who at the time was married to Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. According to Starr, she knocked on Bianca’s hotel room and when the latter opened the door she was told “in a few four-letter words to ‘get lost'”. Lori Mattix, a fellow baby groupie, claimed that Starr once told her to “keep her hands” off of Jimmy Page, saying “if you touch him, I will shoot you. He’s mine.” Her closest friends in Los Angeles were fellow groupies Shray Mecham and “Queenie”. She claimed she knew many of the top musicians in rock music, including Mick Jagger and David Bowie. Robert Plant, Led Zeppelin’s singer, was her favorite rock star friend. She claimed that her outrageous, glam rock clothes were what attracted musicians’ attention. These photos were often taken alongside rock stars; they appeared in American magazines like Rock Scene and Creem.
Starr was one of the first “baby groupsies”, who, in the 1970s, frequented the Rainbow Bar and Grill and the Whisky A Go Go. These were popular nightclubs along West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. Because of their young age, the girls were called “baby groupies”. At the age of 14, a friend invited Starr to join Whisky A Go Go. Starr later said that she was “nuts to start with” at that time. I always liked getting into trouble”. Because she considered herself unattractive, she got a nose job at age 15. Starr was a groupie during her childhood. She lived at home with her family, and she attended Palos Verdes High School in order to please her parents.
