Ray Thompson is one of the most popular and richest Rugby League Player who was born on January 20, 1990 in Cairns, Australia. Thompson was involved in yet another pre-season battle for a Cowboys shirt. This time, Thompson was the 7. Robert Lui, a former Wests Tigers player, was signed to the club. After Lui’s injury to his knee, Lui was out of the game and Thompson was forced to take the lead. Thompson won the battle. Thompson began the year at Halfback with Lui playing Queensland Cup. Lui was later removed from the NRL for off-field incidents. Thompson therefore wore the number 7 jersey for the entire 2012 season. Thompson was granted a 3 year extension to his Cowboys contract on 18 May 2012. This extended Thompson’s contract through the end of 2015. Thompson was injured in Round 23 against New Zealand Warriors. He needed his third shoulder reconstruction. From 18 matches, he scored five tries in 2012.

In February 2014, Thompson was selected in the Cowboys winning inaugural 2014 Auckland Nines squad. Thompson finished the year with him playing in 22 matches and scoring one try.
