Wright attended the University of Arkansas, where he played for the Arkansas Razorbacks football team from 2008 to 2011. He finished his career with 202 receptions for 3,094 yards and 27 touchdowns. Wright saw significant playing time as a rookie, appearing in all 16 games and catching 18 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown. He started four games in place of the injured Percy Harvin, and had a career-high eight receptions for 132 yards in a Week 15 loss to the Houston Texans.
