Erja Lyytinen is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on July 7, 1976 in Kuopio, Finland. At the time, Lyytinen was balancing travelling and studying at Sibelius Academy. Sibelius Academy. In 2003, she decided to go back to the Sibelius Academy. she studied at a foreign institution in Denmark. In the Kobenhavn Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium she learned along with Paul Banks, jazz guitarist Jacob Ficher, singer Etta Cameron, and the guitarist Billy Cross, who had performed alongside Bob Dylan.

Thomas Ruf from the German Ruf Records label brought his Blues Caravan tour to Finland in 2005. There Lyytinen got to jam with female blues artists Candye Kane, Ana Popovic and Sue Foley, who at the time had contracts with Ruf Records. After that Thomas Ruf offered a record deal to Erja Lyytinen which lead to recording her international debut album, Pilgrimage. The album was recorded in Memphis and Mississippi with two other artists, Aynsley Lister and Ian Parker.

In 2006 Lyytinen had a chance to record her next album Dreamland Blues in Oxford, Mississippi with local musicians. On this record, her playing is more slide guitar-oriented than on earlier albums. In Finland, the album was picked as the “Album of the Year” by Bluesministeri (The Bluesminister) radio show, which was broadcast on YLE (Finnish public service media company). In the same year, Lyytinen also toured with the Blues Caravan.

At the beginning of March 2003 Lyytinen received a grant to go to an educational program at Musician’s Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. The school allowed her to learn from Scott Henderson, who has been a member of Chick Corea’s Electric Band, and with Keith Wyatt who, according to her, gave incredible lectures on the history of blues.

On the 10th of November 2002, Lyytinen was opening on behalf of Robert Plant, the former vocalist from Led Zeppelin. She has said that the concert was one of her favorite memories of a concert.

Erja Lyytinen was the only Finnish act to perform at the 2003 edition of Puistoblues where she played on the mainstage. The aforementioned event being the biggest blues festival in Finland.
