Debbie Green-Vargas is one of the most popular and richest Volleyball Player who was born on June 25, 1958 in Seoul, South Korea. Green-Vargas received a BA in communications at Long Beach State in 1992.
Green-Vargas was an assistant coach for the Long Beach State women’s volleyball team for 23 years, retiring after the 2008-09 season.
Green played for the Los Angeles Starlites of Major League Volleyball (MLV), a women’s professional indoor league, and helped the squad earn the league’s first two championships in 1987 and 1988
Green made the team to compete in the 1980 Olympic however, she was dissatisfied with the 1988 Olympic boycott. The year 1984 was the time that Green played in the 1984 Olympics, helping team USA to a silver-medal that was, at the time, the highest medal for women’s volleyball in U.S. women’s volleyball history (later to be matched with the team of 2008).
Despite her petite size, Green was a two All-American setter in her time at USC. She mastered the jumping set, which allowed her to hit the ball in a higher vertical plane, and to create more speed within the offensive. As a result, she was able consistently create opportunities that were beneficial to her players. For the 1977 season, Green helped lead her team of Trojans in a win of 38-0 win and the AIAW National Championships. It was the first NCAA volleyball team to have an unbeaten season. Green was the captain of her team of Trojans towards their second National Championship the following year in 1978. Green was awarded the Broderick Award (now now the Honda Sports Award) as the best female volleyball player at a collegiate level in 1978.
In 1986, she was selected to the United States Volleyball Association Hall of Fame, and in the spring of 1986 received the All-Time Great Volleyball Player award. On April 30, 1998, Green became the first woman to enter the Orange County Sports Hall of Fame.
